Parish History

The first Mass was celebrated in Alberton on 22nd August 1958 by Father Tony Daverin OMI, the then parish priest of Germiston, in a home in Voortrekker Road and then the New Market Hotel.  Two years later on the 14th August 1960, Bishop Boyle blessed and opened the Church which is now the parish hall.

In January 1978 building of the present church was started with the blessing and opening on 23rd January 1979 by Archbishop J.P. Fitzgerald OMI.    The OMI priests who served Alberton were Fathers George Clarke (1960), Tom Bresnan (1966), John Hennessy (1967 ), P Keogh (1970), J E Brady (1972 ), and the present parish priest Kevin Bugler (1985 -).
